The Henry County Health Department is hosting community meetings to discuss the Operation and Maintenance Program for Septic Systems. Ohio law requires every septic system must be issued an operation permit by the local health department. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Ohio law, provide input, and ask questions about the program.

As of Tuesday at noon, the Community Dinner is still ON as scheduled BUT will be a drive thru only meal on Wednesday, Jan 25.
We will make a final decision by noon on Wednesday. If the weather is severe, we will postpone the meal to Thursday, Jan 26, but it will remain drive thru only.

Practical Permaculture

Brad Miller, internationally certified permaculture designer, will offer free classes open to the public on Practical Permaculture, a next level approach to organic gardening, farming, landscaping and living that emphasizes self-sustainment.
This integrates disciplines including biology, ecology, geography, agriculture, and technology.
Classes are scheduled every Tuesday January 17-March 21, 2023 at 7 pm, at Christ Community Church, 20172 County Road X.

Permaculture is next level organic! It is a holistic approach to gardening, farming, landscaping, building and living that emphasizes common sense and self-sustainment. It is an attempt to integrate several disciplines including; biology, ecology, geography, agriculture, architecture, and appropriate technology, into the ways we farm, garden, raise animals, build structures, preserve food, and produce and use energy. This is a class for all ages and backgrounds.

Heal yourself with plants
Free food and medicine from what most people call weeds

Module 2 includes:
Growing citrus in the snow
A garden that you don’t have to till, water, fertilize and barely weed
Purify your water and air both inside and outside your home with plants
How to increase profits in your farm, garden or orchard operation.
Backyard aquaculture – raise fish and vegetable in less and 100 sq. feet
The easiest ways to preserve your harvest
John Lorenzen – how to operate a modern farm off the energy grid
Efficient building design – house, barn shed, etc.
Rocket Stoves – super efficient wood burners
This class is normally offered twice a week for 2 hrs each session for 6 weeks but we have condensed it down as much as possible.
Normal cost is $200 but now is FREE!

Humane Society Bingo

Since 1998, the HCHS has been successfully operating a State licensed bingo game to help keep our shelter operating. This is important to our shelter as we receive no county or state funding. Players and volunteers are always welcome!

Monday nights @ the Filling Home – 470 Independence Drive, Napoleon, Ohio.
Doors open at 5pm – games start at 7pm.
Must at least 18 years of age for entry. You must play bingo or volunteer to be present. Volunteers may arrive as early as 4PM to assist with set up. (Please contact us in advance if you choose to help with set up.)

You may bring your own food into the building.
