Jeff Nicholas is a pianist and composer from southeast Michigan. He studied piano at Eastern Michigan University with Dr. Joel Schoenhals and composition at the same institution with Dr. Anthony Iannccone. He earned his master’s degree in composition from BGSU, studying primarily with Dr. Mikel Kuehn. Although he now works as a full-time software developer, he regularly composes sacred music and maintains a small studio of piano students. His love of Brahms is what drives him to stay connected with music, and he looks forward to sharing that love with anyone and everyone who will listen (except for Vanessa, who has probably had enough of it).
Vanessa Kwiatkowski Nicholas is a pianist, teacher, and church musician based in the Toledo area. Her musical journey began at the age of five when she received a keyboard for Christmas, sparking a passion that has grown into a lifelong career. Some of her performance highlights include participating in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Mozart Sonata Marathon, performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Keyboards in C Minor at Grace Lutheran Church in Wadsworth, OH, traveling to Nałęczów, Poland for an international piano festival, and most recently, winning first place in Kelley’s Island Got Talent Show. Vanessa teaches 18 wonderful piano students, all of whom she adores dearly. She also serves as a music coordinator and bell choir director at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon, OH. Whenever she’s not practicing she is most likely tending to her garden, researching her Polish family history, or spending time with her husband, Jeff, and their cat, Jane. She holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Wayne State University. She studied piano with Emma Bagdassarova, Robert Conway, and Solungga Liu, and studied organ with Ronald Prowse and Michael Gartz.
